JYP엔터테인먼트 밴드 엑스디너리 히어로즈(Xdinary Heroes, XH)가 2023년 10월 11일 미니 4집 ‘Livelock‘(라이브록)과 타이틀곡 ‘Break the Brake‘(브레이크 더 브레이크)를 발매한다.

엑스디너리 히어로즈는 2021년 12월 디지털 싱글 ‘Happy Death Day‘(해피 데스 데이)와 동명의 타이틀곡으로 가요계에 특별한 탄생을 알린 6인조 밴드. 데뷔 이후 ‘Hello, world!‘(헬로, 월드!), ‘Overload‘(오버로드), ‘Deadlock‘(데드록)까지 총 세 장의 미니 앨범을 발표하고 폭발적 악기 사운드를 기반으로 밴드 엑스디너리 히어로즈만의 뚜렷한 음악 개성을 드러냈다. 여기에 미지의 공간 ‘♭form‘(플랫폼)을 중심으로 펼치는 흥미진진한 세계관이 유니크한 매력을 높이고 있다.

이번 새 앨범 ‘Livelock’에서는 현실 세계와 무대 위 히어로로 변모할 수 있는 ‘♭form‘을 오가며 성장통을 겪는 엑스디너리 히어로즈가 아티스트로서 더욱 성장하고 강인해지는 모습이 담겼다. 앨범명 ‘Livelock‘은 ‘무한 반복‘을 뜻하는 컴퓨터 프로그래밍 용어로, 앞서 선보인 세 장의 미니 앨범에 이어 IT 용어로 이름 붙였다. 선과 악의 힘겨룸으로 교착 상태를 다뤘던 전작 ‘Deadlock’에 이어 이를 해결하고자 시도를 거듭하지만 끝없이 반복되는 오류 상황을 음악과 시각 콘텐츠로 표현했다.

신보에는 타이틀곡 ‘Break the Brake‘ 포함 ‘Freddy‘(프레디), ‘PLUTO‘(플루토), ‘Enemy‘(에너미), ‘Bad Chemical‘(배드 케미컬), ‘Paranoid‘(패러노이드), ‘AGAIN? AGAIN!‘(어게인? 어게인!)까지 총 일곱 트랙이 수록됐다. 엑스디너리 히어로즈가 크레디트에 이름을 수놓고 또 하나의 자주적인 앨범을 탄생시켰다. 더불어 JYP 퍼블리싱 소속 스타 작곡가 심은지와 이해솔, 이우민 ‘collapsedone‘, 첫 번째 미니 앨범부터 함께 호흡을 맞춰 온 셀라(SELAH), K팝 히트곡 메이커 이스란 등 유수 작가진이 합세해 엑디즈 음악의 색채를 한층 살렸다.

신곡 ‘Break the Brake‘는 한계를 두지 않고 전진하는 결연한 의지를 외치는 곡이다. 속력을 조절하거나 멈추는 제동 장치를 극한점에 비유해, 그 한계를 뛰어넘어 그 이상을 갈망한다는 메시지를 갖고 달려 나간다. 속도감 넘치는 곡 전개, 풀 밴드 에너지, 짙은 록킹 사운드가 카타르시스를 안긴다. ‘Break the Brake’ 뮤직비디오는 거대한 모래 폭풍이 기차를 집어삼키기 직전 기관실을 차지하고 브레이크를 부수려는 여섯 멤버의 행적을 따라간다. 뜨겁게 끓고 있음에도 성에 차지 않는 엑스디너리 히어로즈의 광폭적이고도 맹렬한 외침에 리스너 역시 폭발적인 흐름에 눈과 귀를 기울일 것이다.
